Tech Update: Are You Ready for 5G?

Companies inclined to wireless industry are now seeing and discussing the possibility of offering a 5G connection by the end of the decade due to the high demand of mobile data traffic and need for high-speed wireless connection. How would you like a 30 gigabits per second download speed? Well, that is one of the potential offering of 5G.

According to Nokia, one of the major players for 5G network, the continuing growth in demand from subscribers for better mobile broadband experiences encourages the wireless industry to look for something to offer beyond the 4G technology and meet future extreme capacity and performance demands.

Moreover, in the recent “Leadership Forum on 5G: The Next Generation of Wireless” hosted by CTIA The Wireless Association last February 9, 2016 in Washington DC, USA, experts and leading players started the preparation for the next generation of wireless connectivity or the 5G. They tried to answer the following questions:

  • What benefits will consumers see with 5G networks?
  • What steps should policymakers take to help maintain U.S. wireless leadership?
  • How will 5G differ from 4G and what new use cases will 5G enable?

The forum was participated by AT&T, Ericsson, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung, T-Mobile, Verizon, and CTIA President & CEO Meredith Attwell Bake.

So what can you expect to a 5G network? According CTIA, 5G will benefit wireless consumers in three key ways:

  • 5G will be very fast, even in densely populated areas.
  • 5G will connect everything, supporting the Internet of Things
  • 5G will be real-time, minimizing delays in network response and enabling entirely new services and applications

5G network is still a concept in progress, an idea that reflects the increasing demand of the society, and expectation of the operators and players. It hasn't been defined yet, and it will possibly be introduced to the market some year after.
